Careers and Employability: So, What’s New?
This is a week-long series of talks, insights, and experiences designed to ignite your entrepreneurial mindset. Each day, you will hear from founders, innovators, and alumni who’ve turned their passions into successful ventures.
Industry Week:
This trimester, Industry Week hosted by the Careers Team took place from Monday 2 – Friday 6 June and what a week it was!
The series of events comprising employers across a range of sectors was dynamic and engaging - bringing together students and professionals through a wealth of interactive workshops, industry talks and a co-hosted Careers Fair boasting over 25 employers from diverse industries.
Among the highlights at the Careers Fair was a packed crowd of engaged students attending the CV clinic booth with queries covering differences between international and UK CVs, appropriate length, professional fonts such ‘Arial, ‘Calibri’, ‘Times New Roman’ (if you want to get technical), to add or not to add a LinkedIn URL and much more.
The industry talks presented great opportunities for students to hear directly from employers such as Kirsty McLean, Director of Wellbeing at Nomura, who shared her professional journey and offered valuable insights into the strategies and initiatives she has implemented to promote mental health and holistic wellbeing in the workplace.
Cat Bernet-Wilson, Careers Manager at the British Psychological Society (BPS) led an inspiring session focused on the breadth of career opportunities both in fields closely linked to Psychology and Mental Health & Wellbeing and broader careers or the ‘wider psychological workforce’. Students thus gained insight into a variety of career paths enabling them to build up skills and train as they work to strengthen confidence in their role. Cat further highlighted key resources available to early-career professionals namely extensive support services and professional networks offered by the BPS.
